LTN News (Islamabad): On Wednesday, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confessed that the approval of the 19th constitutional amendment was an “error on the part of the PPP.”

However, while addressing the National Assembly, the chairman of the PPP stated that the party was threatened that the 18th amendment would be withdrawn if the 19th amendment was not ratified and that as a result, the party “caved in” and passed the 19th amendment.

He stated that the PPP ought to have taken a stand against those individuals who posed a threat to the government at the time.

In 2011, the then-current president, Asif Zardari, gave his signature to the 19th Amendment Bill, thereby incorporating it into the Constitution of Pakistan. The goal of the 19th Amendment Bill was to eliminate a potential cause of contention between the judicial branch and the executive branch, in spite of the fact that it proposed a new process for the nomination of judges to the superior courts.

In reference to the judgment that had been announced by the Supreme Court the previous day, Bilawal stated, “It is wrong that there is one Constitution for us [coalition government] and another for the ‘ladla’.

The ruling of the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly during the CM’s election was deemed “illegal” by the apex court on Tuesday, which led to the removal of PML-Hamza N’s Shahbaz from his position as chief minister of Punjab and the appointment of PTI-backed candidate Pervez Elahi as the new chief minister of Punjab.

In addition, the Supreme Court had already denied the plea of the coalition government to convene a full court in order to hear the issue.

To emphasize the need for a joint parliamentary committee to be constituted for judicial reforms, he posed the following question: “Can all sins and violations of the Constitution carried out in the last 70 years be forgiven by adopting a neutral attitude for one day?”

He stated, “The PPP is ready for judicial reforms,” as evidence of his claim.
