Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia’s choice and policy

Pak-Saudia Relation

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Pakistan openly sided with Riyadh and declared support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s choice and policy, in which it opted to decrease oil output alongside other oil-producing members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Pakistan expresses sympathy with the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of statements made against the Kingdom in the context of the OPEC+ decision, the Foreign Ministry said without citing any specific countries.

In the background, we see a letter purportedly signed by Vice President Joe Biden to Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, advising that the Kingdom wait a month before reducing oil output. One media outlet speculated that gas price increases in the United States may have been avoided until after the upcoming midterm elections if OPEC and its allies had waited to reduce production.

The Saudis “coerced” smaller oil-producing members of OPEC to agree to production cuts, the Biden administration said last week, even though the Saudis knew that doing so would “boost Russian income and dilute the efficacy of sanctions” meant to counter Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

On Monday, Biden warned that the reduction in oil production would have “repercussions,” although he did not specify what those consequences may be. More than a fortnight has passed since Riyadh and its OPEC Plus colleagues announced the greatest supply cut in years to increase global oil prices.

Democratic legislators have proposed several punitive actions against the monarchy, and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Menendez has warned he will vote to stop any further arms shipments.

Legislation to immediately halt all arms shipments to Saudi Arabia for one year was announced last week by Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is concerned about market volatility and maintaining global economic stability. Pakistan has fully supported Riyadh, saying, “We appreciate the worries of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Pakistan underlines its long-standing, enduring, and fraternal ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and calls for a constructive approach to such problems based on dialogue and mutual respect.
