PM Shahbaz visit to Sukkur to review flood situation

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Sukkur, Sindh, on Friday to review the ongoing relief and rescue activities in the flood-affected area.

The premier was received by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari along with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah upon his arrival.

Prior to his landing, he took an aerial view of the devastation caused by the recent rains.

Also, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Sindh early today to check on rescue and relief efforts in the province.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah went with the prime minister to Sukkur to meet with people who had been affected by the flood.

PM Shehbaz also met with the chief secretary of Sindh and NDMA employees, who told him about the rescue efforts.
In a later press conference, he said that the Benazir Income Support Programme would give Rs25,000 to every household in Sukkur that had been hurt by the rain (BISP). “I told it to start giving out the money starting today only.”

The prime minister said that Rs28 billion, which has already been given to BISP, will be given to the victims. “This is not the end of the story. If it rains more, this amount will go up. Even though the economy is bad, the federal government is ready for it. We are doing all of this for you.”

He also said that Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir would stay in the province until all the grid stations were working again. “He will help the Sindh government and keep me up to date regularly,” the prime minister said.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said that during Shehbaz’s trip, he would visit parts of Sukkur in Sindh that were affected by flooding.

The prime minister will go to Rohri, Khairpur, Faizganj, Kot Diji, and Thari Mir Wah.

Marriyum also said that people from the Sukkur district administration and the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) would talk to PM Shehbaz about what is being done to help flood victims and fix infrastructure that has been damaged.

The minister said that the prime minister would meet with the flood victims to talk about the work being done to help them and to find out how they are doing.

Later, the chief secretary of the province and the chief engineer of the Sukkur Baraj will give PM Shehbaz a full report on how bad the flood was.

He thanked the rest of the world for its “sympathy, condolences, and promises of support.”
“Together, we’ll make things better,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that international organizations and financial institutions had responded to the premier’s call for help by saying they would give the flood victims more than $500 million right away.

PM Shehbaz also met with international donors to make them aware of what was going on. At the meeting were people from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other international financial institutions, as well as development partners and donors.



At the meeting, there were also representatives from China, the United States, and the European Union, as well as agencies from the UN and the WHO.
