Web Desk (LTN NEWS): In his speech at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif explained how Pakistan sees the SCO’s strategic direction changing in response to political and economic changes around the world.
“Pakistan’s commitment to the principles and goals of the SCO Charter and to the “Shanghai Spirit” as a core value of the SCO was also reaffirmed,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release on Saturday.
The Pakistani delegation to the Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was led by PM Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting took place in Samarkand on September 15 and 16.
The highest level of the SCO is the annual council meeting, which is where all the big decisions about the future of the Organization are made.
At the Summit meeting, all eight heads of state or government from SCO member states were there in person.
“Taking part in the SCO Summit in Samarkand was a great chance for Pakistan to share its views on important national, regional, and global issues. PM Shehbaz’s extensive talks with world leaders in Samarkand, where they were all gathered, helped to strengthen our bilateral ties with these countries,” the spokesperson said.
PM Shehbaz talks about climate change
In his speech to the SCO, the prime minister made a strong case for the countries of the SCO to work together to fight the effects of climate change.
He talked about how the climate disaster in Pakistan had killed many people and caused a lot of damage.
PM Shehbaz thanked the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for their help in getting relief and help to the people who were hurt by the floods.

In this tough time, the leaders of the SCO showed their support and solidarity with Pakistan.
In the name of the Council of Heads of State of SCO, the president of Uzbekistan asked the rest of the world to help Pakistan deal with the terrible effects of the floods.
PM Shehbaz Sharif talked about the situation in Afghanistan and said that after 40 years of war, there was a real chance that the country could have lasting peace.
PM Shehbaz said that there should be a new deal between Afghanistan and the rest of the world and that there should be good communication with the Afghan interim authorities.
Shehbaz Sharif also talked about how important it is to be open to everyone, to respect the human rights of all Afghans, including women, and to fight terrorism effectively.
PM Shehbaz said that Pakistan is doing a lot to keep peace and security in the region and fight terrorism through the SCO-RATS platform.
PM Shehbaz talked about how Pakistan has helped fight terrorism around the world and how many people have died and how much money has been lost over the last few decades.
PM Shehbaz meets with leaders
On the sidelines of the SCO Summit, PM Shehbaz met with a number of leaders, including the Presidents of China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Turkey.
As SCO Chair, the President of Uzbekistan invited Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, and Serdar Berdimukhamedov of Turkmenistan to the Samarkand CHS as special guests. The heads of Iran, Mongolia, and Belarus, all of which are the SCO Observer States, were also at the Summit.

Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) agreed on the Samarkand Declaration, which set out the group’s stance on important global and regional issues. They also agreed on four joint statements about climate change, food security, energy security, and keeping international supply chains reliable.
SCO Leaders also approved new plans, such as a Comprehensive Action Plan for 2023–2027 to carry out the terms of the Treaty on Long-Term Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation.
Four Intergovernmental Agreements were also signed at the Samarkand CHS:
- Cooperation in the Development of Tourism
- Cooperation in the Field of Trade in Services
- MoU on Cooperation in Museum Matters
- Cooperation in Plant Quarantine
SCO Heads of State and Government agreed to make SCO bigger and accepted Belarus’s request for full membership and the requests of Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait, Maldives, and Myanmar to become new Dialogue Partners.
