Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Wednesday that any of the five names suggested for the next chief of army staff could be chosen.
Asif told reporters at a press conference that the process would start either at the end of this month or the beginning of the next and would follow the law and the Constitution.
Asif also said it was up to the current prime minister to choose one of the names sent by the Ministry of Defense.
The defense minister said that the position of the military chief had been filled with names other than the five that were suggested.
The defense minister said that all three-star generals are eligible for the job of army chief because it is based on seniority.
The minister also talked about how likely the next general election is to happen and said that the polls would be held on time.
Asif made fun of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s worries about who would lead the party. He said that the former prime minister is worried about November coming but that it will be a calm month.

“Imran Khan proved that he wasn’t qualified to be prime minister,” he said. “When the Results Transmission System (RTS) stops working, it’s people like him who take over.”
“Imran Khan hurts the people who feed him. Asif said, “Khan owed someone as long as he was in power, and look at how he talks now.” He added that Khan asks “them” for forgiveness when he sees them but gets angry at his rallies.
The minister of defense said that Khan talks about the Punjab government pardoning cases and asked which of the PML-cases N’s had been pardoned.
“He should name one of our cases that has been forgiven. We know that he sent his message to Punjab through Pakistan’s President, Arif Alvi,” the minister said.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is the Chief of Army Staff right now, will finish his extended term in November of this year. In 2016, he was given the job.
Khwaja Asif is a disaster for Pakistan’s national security. Fawad Chaudhry is the same.
In response to Asif’s press conference, Fawad Chaudhry, a leader of the PTI, said on Wednesday that the minister was a “national security disaster” for Pakistan.
“He is afraid of Imran Khan. A person who is mentally paralyzed has been named minister of defense, “the former minister of information said.
Chaudhry also said that Asif “bad-mouths Khan when government security is around.”
He also said that the minister never talks about Pakistan’s defense or Kashmir.
