Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Interior Minister Rana Sana says that the Islamabad Police picked up a PTI leader after an FIR was filed. The federal government has confirmed that it has arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill on charges of sedition and inciting the public against state institutions.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said at a press conference on Tuesday that Shahbaz was picked up by the Islamabad Police after an FIR was filed.
“We could have found 15 kg of drugs in the car if we wanted to, but we won’t do anything wrong like Imran Khan,” he said.
Rana said that the PTI, which was led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, called a meeting to spread negative propaganda after the Pakistan Army helicopter crashed in Balochistan.
He also said that a private TV channel played a “conspiratorial role” and that Imran Khan told Shahbaz Gill, the former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, and the channel’s management to do so.
He said that bad things were said about the person who died in the helicopter crash on social media.
“In the ranks and files of the Pakistan Army, there was an attempt to start a mutiny and stir up trouble. This whole plot is being looked into, and the people involved in it are being figured out. The Pakistani forces have done good work and lost their lives for their country “he added.
Earlier, PTI Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry said on his official Twitter account that Gill was taken from near Bani Gala Chowk in the federal capital by unidentified people in unmarked vehicles.
Imran Khan, who is the leader of the PTI, said that what happened was “an abduction and not an arrest.”
He asked how such “shameful acts” could happen in a democracy where politicians are “treated like enemies.”
Imran said that these things are being done to get “us to accept a crooked government backed by the outside world.”
Murad Saeed, the leader of the PTI, also went on Twitter to say that Gill had been “abducted” after his car was attacked and his assistant was hurt by people who were not known.
He also said that the people who took Gill were armed with Kalashnikovs and broke the windows on Gill’s car.
Murad asked how many people would be arrested and how many journalists would be “banned” by the government.
He said that a “terrible plan” had been started, but that PTI supporters had sent a “clear message” that any action against Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, would be crossing a “red line.”
The official Twitter account of the PTI posted a video of Gill’s assistant after he was taken. In the video, Gill’s assistant said that the PTI leader had been “arrested” and “tortured.” The helper also showed the scratch marks on his neck.
The assistant said that rifle stocks were used to break the car’s windows, and Gill was handcuffed “as if he were a terrorist.” He also said that eight to ten cars were there when Gill was “arrested” and that the PTI leader was “dragged” away.
Shireen Mazari, a former minister for human rights, pointed out that first, the “civilian dictatorship imported by the government” took a local news station off the air, and then Gill was “arrested or taken away.”
She said that if you said anything bad about the government, there would be no arrest warrant and you would be taken away.
Mazari said that this was part of the “big picture” of the “US regime change conspiracy and those who help it.”
PTI leader Babar Awan also went on Twitter and said that the way Gill was arrested was “reprehensible” and showed that the government was “scared.” He asked the government to be humble and let Gill go.
PTI has decided to go to court
The PTI has decided to go to the Islamabad High Court about Shahbaz’s arrest and has also put together a group of lawyers to do so.
After the arrest, sources told Express News that this was decided at an emergency meeting led by Imran Khan. After the event, people talked about it at the meeting.
We have the power of the people
Imran Khan told the people there that the government had turned into fascism and that moves were being made against political workers that were not democratic.
He said that the government’s fascist actions will not be accepted in any way. “We have the power of the people. We have nothing to worry about because the days of a foreign government are coming to an end.”
Shahbaz Gill is held for two days by the police in Islamabad
Shahbaz Gill, a leader of the PTI, was arrested on charges of sedition and inciting the public against the institutions of the state. On Wednesday morning, an Islamabad court gave him back to the police on a two-day remand.
He went to court today, where the Islamabad Police asked for his physical remand so that they could get back his cell phone and the device he used to make statements. The police also said that they have to look into whose orders the show was made to air.
After a short hearing, the court put off making a decision. Later, it was announced that Shahbaz Gill would be held for two days by the Islamabad Police.
The PTI leader’s seditious comments on a TV show caused the state to file a case against him at the Kohsar Police Station.
Gill denies charges
Gill told reporters before his court date that he wasn’t “ashamed” of what he said on the private TV channel.
The former special assistant to the prime minister said, “There was nothing in what I said that I should be ashamed of. My words were those of a person who loves his armed forces.”
The leader of the PTI said he wasn’t trying to stir up trouble and that he was only pointing out “wrongdoings” by bureaucrats.
