Web Desk(LTN News): On Wednesday, a special court in Lahore reserved judgment while considering the acquittal arguments made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s son, Hamza Shehbaz, in a case involving money laundering.

Shehbaz and his two sons, Hamza and Suleman, were detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in November 2020 on Sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 34, and 109 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as Section 3/4 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Due to Suleman’s persistent absence from the trial proceedings, the court had deemed him to be a proclaimed offender.

The FIA had previously informed the court on Tuesday that no direct transfers from Benami’s accounts had been made to the bank accounts of PM Shehbaz and his son.

Amjad Pervez, an attorney for PM Shehbaz and former chief minister of Punjab Hamza, asked the court to allow the premier another exemption from the hearing because of his unavoidable official commitments at the beginning of today’s session.

For their suspected role in laundering Rs16 billion in the sugar scam case, Shehbaz and Hamza were the targets of an FIA challan that was brought to a special court in December 2021.
