Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Residents of Sindh can finally breathe a sigh of relief because the monsoon season is almost over. This is good news because record rains caused flooding in many cities during the season.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director Sardar Sarfaraz said that the current monsoon system has weakened and is almost over in Sindh.
The weatherman said that light to moderate rain is likely in Jacobabad, Larkana, Qambar, Shahdad Kot, Sukkur, and some places in the northeast of Balochistan.
The PMD official also said that the rainy season will last until about the middle of September.
“On August 29 and 30, a weather system could form over the Arabian Sea, but it won’t cause a lot of rain.”
Dr. Sarfaraz said that climate change has caused weather patterns to change all over the world and has caused the monsoon season in Pakistan to last longer.
“Monsoon systems now affect Balochistan, Afghanistan, and even Saudi Arabia.”
He said that Karachi’s most recent monsoon was very strong.
Balochistan and Sindh have been getting rain nonstop, which has caused a lot of damage and killed hundreds.
A report from the National Disaster Management Authority says that 32% of the land used to grow cotton has been destroyed. It also said that 80% of Sindh’s cotton crop had been destroyed and that all of Balochistan’s cotton crop had been washed away.
