Web Desk (LTN NEWS): According to a press release from K-Electric on Thursday, the company will begin sending out new bills on August 26 to accommodate the government’s decision to eliminate fuel adjustment charges (FCA) for customers whose usage is less than 200 units, or 5 kilowatts.
Power Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan had previously stated that only homes with annual electricity consumption of less than 200 units would be spared from the fuel price increase (FCA). The power minister made the announcement during a press conference in Karachi, saying that 17 million people are receiving aid totaling Rs22 billion because of the FCA.
A K-Electric representative said in a statement that the company’s new rates for customers using fewer than 200 units per month no longer include FCA fees. He insisted that the extended deadline of August 30 for submitting the updated utility bills was firm.
In an effort to better serve their customers, K-Electric has announced that their call centers would be open on Sundays until 5 pm.
But he made it clear that the billing schedule for businesses and homes with electricity use beyond 200 units will remain unchanged.
Prime Minister Shahbaz announced a new aid package
The high FCA in electricity bills was a topic of discussion after Prime Minister Shehbaz stated on August 23 that 17 million of the entire power consumers would be excluded.
After conferring with the IMF, PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, and other coalition leaders, the prime minister said via video address from Qatar, where he is on a two-day trip, that 17.1 million power consumers will not be required to pay the FCA for the months of July and August.
