Government stop blocking imports: Miftah

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Thursday, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said that the government would no longer stop people from bringing in non-essential and luxury items.

Ismail told a press conference in Islamabad that the government’s top priority was to give the people of the country the things they needed most with the money they had.

“So the choice is clear; we can either buy cars with that money or wheat. That we would rather buy things like cell phones, grain, home appliances, microwaves, and air conditioners than food oil.

The minister said that we had banned these things because of this. “However, the international community says that we can’t put a ban on anything, so we are taking it off of everything.”

But at the same time, the government will put heavy regulatory duties (RDs) on these things, he said, so they won’t be brought in as “finished goods.”

Ismail said that we would try to give out the most RDs that we could.
