Maryam’s passport plea rejects by LHC

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Thursday, a two-judge bench at the LHC sent a petition from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz asking for her passport back to the chief justice because one of the judges had recused himself from the case.

A bench made up of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq Pannun heard the petition.

Amjad Pervez, Maryam’slawyer, was in court, but Justice Pannun took himself out of the case for personal reasons.

At this point, the bench sent the petition to the chief justice with a request to have it heard by any other bench.

In April, Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural, who were both parts of the division bench led by Justice Najafi, said that they couldn’t hear Maryam’spetition.

Maryam Nawaz says in a new civil matter that was filed with her pending writ petition that it was common knowledge that her father was allowed to go abroad because his health was so bad.

She said her father had not regained his health so far as he was still undergoing the diagnosis process as per a medical report filed with the court after duly attested by the Pakistan High Commission in London.

The petitioner said that since she gave up her passport to follow the court’s order, she had not been able to use her basic rights for about four years because she did not have a charge sheet or a trial.

The leader of PML-N said she had to go abroad right away to check on her sick father and take care of him.

In order to be fair, she asked the court to tell the deputy registrar (judicial) to give her passport back.

Earlier, the NAB had fought against Maryam’s petition and the return of her passport, which she had given to the court when she was given bail after being arrested in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. It said that the petitioner’s brothers and other relatives were already in London taking care of her father.
