Web Desk (LTN NEWS): A statement from the President’s House said that, in honor of Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day, President Arif Alvi gave prisoners their freedom on Saturday.

Article 45 of the Constitution says that the sentences are being cut.

“Sentences would be changed for male prisoners who are 65 or older or who have been in prison for at least 15 years. Also, women in prison who are at least 60 years old or who have served at least 10 years of their sentence will be freed “said what was said.

People who have been in jail for at least three-quarters of their sentence or 20 years will also be let out.

But people who have been convicted of espionage, rape, bank robbery, anti-state activities, adultery, kidnapping, or robbery will not get their sentences reduced.

On previous occasions of Eidul Fitr, President Alvi had also given special pardons to different kinds of convicts.

The superintendent of Adiala Jail, Saqib Naseer, told The Express Tribune that 12 prisoners were freed because of a pardon from the president.

“On the holiday of Eidul Fitr, 66 others got a shorter sentence, 30 prisoners were freed because they had served their time, and 139 people who were out on bail went home,” said Naseer.
