Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that he was very worried about how bad the recent floods in Pakistan had been and that his government would do everything it could to help the people who had been hurt.

In a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Julien Harneis, the prime minister said that Pakistan was committed to the UN Charter’s goals and principles.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that the meeting was about the UN’s work and how it works with Pakistan. Some of the things that were talked about were the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, flood relief, food security, and restoring ecosystems.

PM Sharif said that Pakistan was doing a lot of work for the UN, especially in the areas of peacekeeping, helping people in need, dealing with climate change, and working with other countries for sustainable development.

The US says it will help flood victims with money

The UN official told the PM about what the global body is doing in Pakistan, such as work on sustainable development, humanitarian aid, protecting the environment, making sure there is enough food, and dealing with climate change.

He also said that the UN would keep helping Pakistan in its efforts to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and grow in a way that is sustainable.

Since January 2020, Mr. Harneis has worked as the UN’s resident coordinator in Pakistan.

Help with money: The US said it would help flood victims with money. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a tweet on Wednesday, “We stand by Pakistan in hard times and offer our help to flood victims. In addition to the $100,000 in immediate aid, the U.S. pledged $1 million to build resilience against natural disasters. We are still working together to reduce the effects of the climate crisis on the future.

Ambassador Donald Blome had earlier said, “The United States stands with the people of Pakistan as they try to get back on their feet after the damage caused by the floods.” I issued a humanitarian need declaration, and as a result, @USAID Pakistan will give $100,000 to the affected people. He said that the money will help buy supplies that are needed right away to save lives and ease the suffering of the most vulnerable communities.

PM visits family of late commander Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali

Later, the PM went to see the family of the late Commander 12 Corps Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who died in a helicopter crash in the Lasbela district of Balochistan recently, and offered his condolences.

“Our martyrs are our pride. He was quoted as saying that the soldiers and officers of the Pakistani military would never be afraid to give their lives to protect their country.
