Prime Minister’s visits to flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Tank (LTN NEWS): Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that joint efforts of the federal and provincial governments and departments are indispensable to ensure the early recovery of the people affected by the floods caused by the torrential rains.

The Prime Minister arrived in Tank District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review the relief and rehabilitation works in the flood-affected areas

They were briefed about the ongoing relief operations in the flood-affected areas and the damage to infrastructure in the Tank district.

During the briefing, Deputy Commissioner Tank Hameedullah Khan informed the Prime Minister about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation works in the area, including the provision of food and drinking water in the temporary shelters.

The Prime Minister urged the KP government to increase the ex-gratia to Rs 10 lakh from the current announced amount of Rs 8 lakh.

The Prime Minister said that the federal government has increased the cash assistance amount from 25 thousand to 250 thousand rupees for the injured, 5 lakh rupees for completely destroyed houses, and 2 lakh rupees for partially affected houses. A compensation of lakhs of rupees has also been announced.

After being informed about the damage caused by the floods to the main roads, the Prime Minister directed the National Highway Authority to restore the roads under its jurisdiction as soon as possible.

He said that after completing the visit to the flood-affected areas, he would consider a survey by the NDMA and provincial authorities to assess the damage and decide on the possible support from the federal government.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of the Pakistan Democratic Movement, who accompanied the Prime Minister on this occasion, said that the construction of Tank Zam Dam and other small dams will help to protect the area and its infrastructure from floods.

During the briefing, the Prime Minister was told that about 11,000 families have been damaged by the floods in the Tank district and 7 people have been injured in addition to 2 deaths.

The Prime Minister also called for the work being done by NHA to restore the infrastructure of flood-damaged roads in Balochistan and KP.

The Prime Minister appreciated the rescue and relief efforts made by the National Disaster Management Authority and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities for the affected population during his visit to the flood-affected areas of Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He appreciated the NDMA, PDMA as well as the concerned ministers for their efforts to ensure early relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.

On this occasion, along with the Prime Minister, Federal Minister of Communications Maulana Asad Mahmood, Advisor to the Prime Minister Engineer Amir Makam, and senior government officials were also present.
