Shahbaz Gill asks court for bail on sedition charges

Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Shahbaz Gill, a leader of the PTI, was arrested on charges of sedition and inciting mutiny in the army. On Thursday, he went to a sessions court in Islamabad to ask for bail until the case is over.

Gill was arrested on August 9 after he allegedly made controversial comments about the army during an ARY News bulletin. Since then, he has been detained, and some people say he has been tortured and sexually abused while in custody.

In the meantime, the police have denied these claims and asked for multiple extensions of his remand, saying that they needed more time to finish their investigation.

Yesterday, an Islamabad district and sessions court denied a police request to keep Gill in jail for another week. His lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, said that they would now apply for the PTI leader’s release on bail.

After that, he filed a bail petition for his client in a sessions court today.

A copy of the petition can be found on Dawn.com. It said that the first information report (FIR) filed against Gill was “made up, vague, and not true.”

It said that the FIR was “a bunch of lies” and that it was filed by the current government to settle a political score with the PTI and its leaders, including Imran Khan.

The petition also said that the whole thing was “clearly illegal and politically motivated” and that the state was using its power in a sneaky way.

It said Gill was a “respectable citizen” who came from a “noble family.” The plea said that the PTI leader was still in jail even though the investigation was over.

“It is respectfully asked that the petitioner be given bail after being arrested until the case is finally decided,” the plea says.
