Web Desk (LTN NEWS): Imran Khan, the former prime minister and head of the PTI, has criticized how party leader Shahbaz Gill was treated after he was arrested by police in Islamabad for sedition last week. He said, “The civilized world will be shocked at our level of barbarism.”
Imran shared a video of Gill being taken to the hospital on a stretcher while wearing an oxygen mask on Wednesday.
“Going the way of a banana republic. The rest of the world will be shocked by how wild we are. The worst part is that a simple person has been picked to be tortured and put on trial without a fair trial.” the head of the PTI wrote in the tweet.
In a second tweet, he said that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and PPP leader Asif Zardari, all of whom are now part of the coalition government, were not punished for attacking state institutions.
“[…] all of whom have repeatedly attacked state institutions in the worst way possible by saying bad things about them,” he said, “get away without even a hint of a reprimand.”
In the sedition case against Gill, a local court agreed to the police’s request for an extension of his physical remand earlier today.
Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry gave the reserved verdict, and then Gill was turned over to the police for two more days of physical remand.
The court said that it is not fully satisfied that the investigation into the PTI leader is finished. It also said that Gill should be given back to the police for another 48 hours so that they can finish their investigation.
Gill was taken into custody last week at Bani Gala Chowk in Islamabad after a video of him making controversial comments went viral on social media. After that, he was charged with trying to start a mutiny in the military.
