Islamabad (LTN NEWS): Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Rana Iradat Sharif Khan told the National Assembly on Wednesday that fuel adjustment charges were being added to electricity bills every two months to keep up with the prices of fuel in the country.
He said in response to a call for attention in the House that if the fuel adjustment charges weren’t paid back, the circular debt would rise proportionally, which could cause distribution companies to go bankrupt.
Rana Iradat Khan said that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) set the prices for energy and the fuel adjustment charges every two months.

He said that the amount of circular debt had doubled in the three years that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was in power, but that the current government had cut the amount.
He also said that the fuel adjustment charges would start going down starting next month.
He said that NEPRA followed the law.
Rana Iradat Khan said in response to a question that the fuel adjustment charges were made by both the current government and the ones that came before it. He also said that the provinces were given net hydroelectric charges, which the provincial governments used to improve areas where hydroelectric power is made.
