Web Desk (LTN NEWS): On Monday, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) raised the price of electricity by Rs.4.34 per unit because of the fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for DISCOS in July 2022.

Central Power Purchasing Agency–Guarantee (CPPA-G) asked for the unit cost to go up by Rs4.69, so on August 31, NEPRA held a public hearing to talk about the monthly FCA, which is a way to change electricity prices when fuel prices change.

NEPRA looked at the data and came up with an increase of Rs4.3435 per unit based on what they knew so far.

Before the end of June, power distribution companies were charging Rs9.90 per unit for fuel adjustment. This was only for one month. Under the FCA, the distribution companies would charge Rs5.56 less per unit in September than they did in June. This, too, will only be true for one month.

This will be true for all DISCOS customers except those who use a lifeline. But K-Electric customers will not have to pay more. The price hike of Rs4.34 will cost consumers over Rs69 billion when GST is taken into account.

People were worried at the beginning of this month when they got inflated bills for August that included large amounts under the FCA.

But after huge protests broke out across Pakistan because of inflated bills, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered that FCA amounts be taken off the bills of people who have used less than or equal to 300 units.
