Web Desk (LTN NEWS): In a message for Defence Day on Tuesday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said that anyone who wants to “hurt the bond” between the country’s armed forces and the people is “not a friend of Pakistan.” He also called for national unity to deal with the problems caused by the historic floods.

In his message, PM Shehbaz made a veiled reference to a recent speech Imran Khan gave about choosing the next army chief. This speech drew harsh criticism from the coalition government and a harsh statement from ISPR.

In his speech for Defense Day, he said:

“Today, the whole country comes together to honor our martyrs and Ghazis, who risked their lives to defend the motherland against Indian aggression. Together, our armed forces and people were able to stop the Indian plans to hurt the integrity of our territory.”

“Pakistan is facing historic floods and other problems, and we need to bring back the spirit of 1965. He went on to say, “The strength of our country is its unity.”

“Anyone who wants to make it harder for our military and people to get along is not a friend of Pakistan. Let’s make this bond between us stronger,” he said as he ended.

Later, the prime minister went to a ceremony at the Pakistan Monument, where he laid a wreath of flowers to mark the day. When he spoke at the ceremony, he talked about the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs and praised them for protecting Pakistan without thinking of themselves.

COAS Speech on Defence Day

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is in charge of the army, said that September 6 represented the “unwavering resolve” of the country’s armed forces to defend the motherland no matter what.

“Our heroes are praised by the whole country,” he said. “We owe our freedom and peace to the unimaginable deaths of martyrs,” he said.

President words on Defence Day

In his message, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that today served as a reminder of the jawans and officers of the armed forces unmatched bravery and courage.

“57 years ago, on this day, we stopped the bad plans of the enemy and beat them on all fronts. During that hard time, not only did Pakistan’s armed forces fight bravely on land, in the air, and on the water, but every single citizen came out to defend and protect the motherland.

“This is why September 6 will go down in history as a sign of unwavering national resolve, absolute patriotism, deep professionalism, and the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.

“At the same time, I want to make it clear that our desire for peace shouldn’t be taken as a sign of weakness. We are aware of both our national and international responsibilities,” he said.
